Tenga Valley – Tenga Valley is a haven for birdwatching enthusiasts. With its diverse habitats ranging from dense forests to riverbanks, the valley attracts a wide variety of avian species. Birdwatchers can spot a range of colourful and rare birds, including the beautiful Rufous-necked Hornbill, Long-tailed Broadbill, Ward’s Trogon, and the vibrant Scarlet Finch.  

Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary –  one of the world’s finest birding sites, Eaglenest is home to over 450 species of birds, including numerous rare and endemic species. Birding enthusiasts can spot unique birds like the Bugun Liocichla, Beautiful Nuthatch, and Ward’s Trogon

Dirang – with it’s natural beauty, with panoramic views of snow-capped mountains, lush valleys, and serene rivers, Dirang is a place to immerse yourself in the rich cultural heritage on the Monpa tribe and deep Tibetan influences. Visit the UNESCO Dirang Dzong, a 9th century fortress.

Sela Pass – Sela Pass, situated at an altitude of 13,700 feet in Arunachal Pradesh, is not only known for its breathtaking beauty but also for its incredible birding opportunities. This high-altitude mountain pass offers a unique ecosystem, attracting a diverse range of avian species. Birdwatchers can spot several Himalayan and alpine species, including the Himalayan Monal, Blood Pheasant and Snow Pigeon.

This birding tour can be done any time between October to April. The best months for birding in Eaglenest is March and April, when the rhododendron trees are in bloom, but it is also the breeding season. Between November and February the temperatures can be very cold, and the high passes can be covered in snow and low cloud which can affect visibility on the Sela Pass and Mandala.   

The Northeast is home to an enviable number of avian species both migratory and permanent residents across its many national parks.
This 8 night tour will visit birdwatchers’ paradise – Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary and Sela Pass in Arunachal Pradesh and Nameri National Park in Assam. Eaglenest hosts over 500 species of birds. Nameri National Park is home to over 350 species of birds. Of the seven national parks in Assam, Nameri is the only one that allows trekking into the forest making it ideal for bird-watching. Sela Pass, at 4170meters, offers breath-taking views place and is home to the rare Blood Pheasant.

Day 1 – Guwahati – Tezpur

Arrive at Guwahati airport, met by your driver Arrive into Guwahati and transfer to Tezpur. Your birding guide will meet you at the hotel in
the evening and brief you on the itinerary and the region you will be travelling for the next few days.

Day 2 – Tezpur – Tenga Valley

Early check out by 5am and transfer to Nameri National Park. Jungle walk inside the forest. Spend about an
hour or two bird watching inside the reserve forest.
Continue to Tenga Valley in Arunachal Pradesh. Afternoon birdwatching

Day 3 – Tenga Valley 

Early departure with a packed breakfast and travel to Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary for early morning birdwatching. By 11:30am a short break and lunch in a local home. Afternoon birdwatching. Return to hotel by evening. 

Day 4 – Tenga Valley  

Early departure with a packed breakfast and travel to Eaglenest Wildlife Sanctuary.
Today the route will be inside the sanctuary towards Eaglenest Pass and Sunder View. Morning birdwatching with a packed lunch. Back to the hotel late afternoon stopping for birding en route

Day 5 – Tenga Valley – Mandala 

After breakfast drive to Dirang
stopping en route  to see the Dirang Dzong, a UNESCO
World Heritage Site.
Continue to Mandala with some birding stops on the way.

Day 6 – Mandala – Dirang 

Early rise with a packed breakfast and full morning of birding in Mandala. Lunch and drive to Dirang where you will visit a Monpa village to gain insights into how the tribe lives. Take a  village walk and taste the millet beer and local snacks. Check in to your hotel in Dirang.

Day 7 – Dirang 

Early morning at 4 AM drive up to Sela Pass for a morning of birdwatching. This area is best known for sighting of blood pheasants. Return to Dirang for some leisure time
and dinner and overnight at hotel. 

Day 8 – Dirang  – Sapoi

Check out after breakfast by 9am and drive down to Sapoi, on the way visiting Chilipam
Monastery known for its Buddhist mural art. Lunch at a local farmhouse. At Sapoi check in to a family run farm
homestay amid a tea garden.

Day 8 – Sapoi – Guwahati Airport 

Check out after a leisurely breakfast and drive
to Guwahati airport for evening flight
