This 9-day tour is a great mix of adventure and culture. From observing the fast-changing customs of the people in Ziro Valley to the Mishing tribes of Majuli, while also exploring wildlife in Kaziranga. Witness changing lifestyles of the people in remote hamlets and tribal areas, gradually yet inevitably. A chance to interact with members of the tribes will allow a peek into a lifestyle that is still pretty unique. Relish traditional meals featuring meats and vegetables grilled in bamboo sleeves as our local acquaintances provide insight into their traditions. Enjoy the stunning expanses the region’s diverse flora and fauna. Be regaled by stories in a colonial bungalow of tea plantation life from the yesteryears.

Day 1 – Arrive in Guwahati

Arrive at Guwahati airport. Receive and transfer to hotel. En route visit the Kamakhya Temple complex if time permits. In the afternoon, visit the Emporium and shops. Go for a river cruise on the Brahmaputra. Interact with the hosts over dinner in a private residence.

Day 2 – Guwahati – Kaziranga

After breakfast, drive to Kaziranga (193 kms/approximately 4hrs). Lunch on the way. A visit to a tea plantation near Kaziranga has been planned. In the evening, a visit to the tourist center can be organized for those interested.

DAY 3 – Kaziranga

Early morning (optional) an elephant ride inside the sanctuary. Visits can be arranged to the surrounding cottage industries. Evening jeep safari ride .

DAY 4 – Kaziranga – Majuli

Early morning drive to Nimati Ghat (122 kms/approx 3hrs). Cross over to Majuli via the public or private ferry. Visit to a local monastery and a Mishing village has been planned. The women here are skilled weavers and very friendly. Buy directly from them.

Day 5 – Majuli – Ziro

It is 156 kms away and approximately a 7hr drive over roads that are not in great shape but the views will make up for it. Drive through lush tropical rainforests with flora in every shade of green. Stop for a picnic lunch. Early evening at Ziro walk in the countryside or just relax.

Day 6 – Ziro

Spend the whole day exploring the town and surrounding villages. Visit the technical center and museum. The ways of the village are virtually unchanged for generations. Visit one of their traditional homes.

Day 7 – Ziro

The countryside is gorgeous and depending on how the day pans out, a small trek is planned to take in the views of the forest and the surrounding hills. In the evening visit the local market at Ziro. It is not to be missed, as sometimes you find very exotic things for sale.

Day 8 – Ziro – Tezpur

After breakfast, start the drive down to the town of Tezpur (266kms/approximately 8hrs) Three cultural icons of Assam – Jyoti Prasad Agarwala, Bishnu Prasad Rabha and Dr. Bhupen Hazarika – grew up here. Hence, Tezpur is known as the cultural capital of Assam. Lunch will be arranged at Itanagar.

DAY 9 – Tezpur – Airport / Guwahati

Memories: Head towards the airport at Guwahati (196 kms/approximately 4hrs). En route stop for lunch .
