Go on a Wild Family Adventure ( 4 nights/5 days)
Little Roots Trip to Manas with a day trip to Bhutan and one night at Guwahati
Caught up in the daily grind of our urban routines, it’s not often that we get a chance to discover something magical with our kids. The thrill of encountering your first baby rhino as it straggles behind its mother amidst the tall grasslands of Manas National Park is incredible. As you peer into the treeline, it’s a pleasant surprise to catch sight of the magnificent golden langur, an endangered primate, staring back at you. Identifying bird calls and species (the park is home to 380 species!) can be a fun exercise on your jeep safari.
Exploring nature and the great outdoors is one of the best ways to engage and awaken one’s natural curiosity. The chance to travel and interact with other children in a group can be a rewarding experience for your child – picture impromptu rock-climbing sessions and spontaneous talent shows. A photographer accompanying you will also conduct an immersive 2 hour mobile film making workshop for those interested above the age of 9 years ,either on day one or two. She will also capture some memorable images of you and your family. The theme is “Capturing nature”
Picnicking by the clear waters of Manas River, sipping on tea and munching on a sandwich it’s easy to forget the chaos of city life. Choose to be lazy and skip a few stones across the river or participate in some fun activities. From a mobile film making workshop to instructions on how to start a fire in the wild – these useful skills will keep both adults and kids happily occupied. As you kick back and rest on the pebbled riverbank, you’ll notice the eastern Himalayas looming on your horizon. Don’t be surprised when your guide casually points out, “That’s Bhutan”. Of course, you’ll get a chance to visit the neighbouring country on a day-long trip to Panbang (a settlement in the south of Bhutan). It’s a scenic drive as you cross the border into Royal Manas Park in Bhutan and proceed towards the quiet little town of Panbang. Lunch at a local restaurant will allow you to sample traditional delicacies.
When not communing with nature, meet local Bodo villagers near Manas as they go about their daily lives – watch the women weave colourful, traditional patterns on handlooms and cultivate patches of kitchen garden. Before you make your way back home, catch a cultural Bodo performance, cruise along the Brahmaputra in Guwahati and enjoy a traditional Assamese meal of khar (a vegetable dish flavoured with banana peel ash extract), tenga (a light tomato based curry), local greens, freshly-caught river fish, pork curry and more.
We guarantee that these five days of fun and discovery will remain with you and your family long after you have left the land of the rhinos.
