Client Brief The client was keen on travelling to Assam and Meghalaya and had requested an 8-day customized travel itinerary for four people, with a budget not exceeding Rs. 35,000/- per person. The focus of the tour was primarily on cuisine and culture, apart from the regular sights that gets to experience on a visit to the north east. On request by the client, Curtain Call Adventures included a day’s visit to Kokrajhar, a Bodo district in Assam where she met a friend and experienced Bihu celebrations in a Bodo village.
Trip Outline

Day 1 – Guwahati/ Shillong-Umiam Lake

Arrive at Guwahati LBG airport. Receive and proceed to Barapani (110 kms / approximately 3 hours). En route stop at the Kamakhya temple and walk around the complex. Proceed to Shillong. Stop for lunch at Nogpoh.
Umiam Lake, locally known as Barapani – the largest man-made lake in North East India is very scenic. Check into hotel. Stroll around or just relax at the hotel. Evening go for a walk around the lake.

Day 2 – Shillong

After breakfast head to Shillong peak (27 kms / approximately 1.5 hours), take in the view and if you choose to do a fun thing, rent local costumes and take pictures wearing them. En route back to town check out Elephant Falls. Spend the afternoon with a local, and have a traditional Khasi meal with them.
Visit the Weiking grounds to see the dance programme. Evening visit Bara Bazar – the oldest market in the area which provides a good understanding of the rural Khasi tribesmen.

Day 3 – Shillong – Mawlynnong – Shillong

Drive to Mawlynnong village (90 kms / approximately 3.5 hours). Mawlynnong is claimed to be the cleanest village in Asia. Climb up the sky bridge and get a bird’s eye view of the village. Also walk to the living root bridge near the village.These bridges are unique formations built by the secondary roots of the rubber trees. The local people net the roots with each other to form a rope way like structure which after about 100 years have become strong enough to be used as a bridge to cross the hilly streams. Have lunch at a local home stay/restaurant there.
Drive to Dawki (35 kms / approximately 1.5 hours)and see the crystal clear waters of the Umngot river.
Early evening drive back to Shillong.

Day 4: Shillong-Kaziranga

Check out of the hotel by 7 am latest and drive to Kaziranga (243 kms / approximately 4.5 hours). After checking into hotel confirm the jeep safari for the afternoon at the front desk. Have a quick lunch, freshen up and report to the front desk at 2 pm.
Visit the organic tea shop and watch the cultural performance in the evening.

Day 5: Guwahati

Early morning join the elephant ride and back to lodge for breakfast. Check out and visit the Orchid National and Biodiversity Park.
Proceed to Guwahati (193 Kms / approximately 4 hours ). Stop at Roha Punjabi Dhaba. Check into your hotel, you are at leisure to check out the emporiums.

Day 6: Guwahati

Try some local activities in Guwahati. Visit the local market with a local guide and attend a cooking class. Visit the State Museum and the Archaeological Site. Evening enjoy a cruise on the River Brahmaputra.

Day 7: Kokrajhar

After an early breakfast, drive to Kokrajhar (227 kms / approximately 5 hours). Stop for an early lunch en route. Afternoon and evening explore the Bodo village and enjoy the Bihu festival.

Day 8: Kokrajhar-Guwahati Airport

Morning continue to explore the Bodo village. Leave by 10 am latest and proceed to Guwahati airport(196 kms / approximately 4 hours) to board your flight for onward destination. En route stop for a quick lunch.
